Web Design for Small Businesses
Your website doesn’t need to be complicated to make a great impression.
At Winged Things, we design and build straightforward WordPress websites for small businesses. Whether you’re starting a new business, replacing an outdated website or simply need a better way to showcase your services, we can help.
We offer both single-page and multi-page websites, built around your business, your customers and the information they actually need.
WordPress Web Design
We build our websites using WordPress, providing a flexible and established platform that can grow alongside your business. Each website is designed around the individual business rather than simply filling a generic template with content.
We consider your branding, services, customers and goals to create a website that looks professional, works across different devices and makes it easy for visitors to understand what you do.
Websites Can Include:
Responsive desktop, tablet and mobile design
Contact forms
Service information
Image galleries
Testimonials and reviews
Social media links
Google Maps and contact information
Basic on-page SEO
Google Analytics integration
Google Search Console setup
Cookie consent configuration
If you need something that isn’t listed, get in touch and we can discuss what’s possible.
What’s Not Included as Standard:
E-commerce
Membership systems
Complex customer portals
Bespoke web applications
Online booking systems
(we can link to external booking or ordering services from your website)
If you have additional requirements, we can discuss whether they’re something we can provide or recommend an appropriate solution.
Web Design With SEO in Mind
A good-looking website isn’t particularly useful if nobody can find it.
Search engine optimisation is considered throughout the way we build and structure our websites. This gives your website a solid foundation for improving its visibility in search engines such as Google.
This can include:
- Clear page and heading structures
- SEO-friendly page titles and descriptions
- Image optimisation
- Internal linking
- Mobile-friendly design
- Website performance considerations
- Service-focused content structure
- Google Search Console setup
- Google Analytics setup
For multi-page websites, dedicated service pages can also provide more opportunities to target the individual services your business provides.

Ready for a New Website?
Whether you’re starting a new business, replacing an outdated website or simply want a more professional online presence, we’d be happy to discuss what you need.
Our Web Design Process
Getting a new website doesn’t need to be complicated. We’ve kept our process straightforward, giving you the opportunity to see our proposed direction for your website before deciding whether you’d like to go ahead.
1. Get in Touch
Start by getting in touch and telling us a little about your business and the website you’re looking for.
Whether you already know exactly what you need or you’re not quite sure where to start, we’ll help you work out what would be suitable for your business.
2. Discuss Your Website
We’ll discuss your business, the services you provide and what you’d like your website to achieve.
We’ll also talk about the content we’ll need to get started, such as your business information, services, branding, photographs and contact details.
Once we’ve agreed on the initial requirements and received the content we need, we’ll begin putting together a demonstration of our proposed website design.
3. See Your Website Demo
We aim to provide an initial website demo* for you to review within two weeks of receiving the information and content we need to begin.
The demo is designed to show you the proposed look, layout and direction of your website, giving you something real to review rather than asking you to commit based solely on a description.
For larger or multi-page websites, the initial demo may focus on the homepage and key elements of the proposed design rather than representing every page of the completed website.
* About our website demos
Our initial website demo is provided to help you decide whether Winged Things is the right fit for your project. Demo designs remain the property of Winged Things until you proceed with the project and the applicable ownership conditions have been met. Initial demos are for evaluation and cannot be used or transferred as a completed website.
4. Your Feedback
Once you’ve had a chance to explore the demo, let us know what you think.
You’re welcome to suggest reasonable changes to the proposed design and content. We’ll use your feedback to refine the concept and make sure we’re heading in the right direction.
The initial demo and revision process is intended to help you decide whether you’d like to proceed with Winged Things. More substantial changes, additional pages and the completion of the full website take place once you’ve chosen to go ahead.
5. Ready to Go Ahead?
Happy with what you see? You can choose to continue with either our website-only service or one of our managed website packages.
For website-only projects, we’ll confirm the final scope and price before completing your website. Payment will be due once the website has been completed and approved.
For managed websites, we’ll confirm your package and complete the relevant service agreement before completing and preparing the website for launch.
If you decide we’re not the right fit, that’s okay too. There’s no obligation to proceed following the initial demonstration, and we appreciate you considering Winged Things for your website.
6. Completion & Launch
Once you’ve decided to go ahead, we’ll complete the remaining work on your website and prepare everything for handover or launch.
Website Only
Once the finished website has been approved and payment has been received, we’ll provide the completed website files for installation on your own compatible hosting.
You’ll then be responsible for your website’s hosting and ongoing management, including WordPress updates, backups, security and maintenance.
If you’d prefer us to take care of these things, you can choose one of our managed website packages instead.
Managed Website
If you’ve chosen a managed website package, we’ll take care of getting your completed website online and continue hosting, maintaining and supporting it as part of your service.
Where appropriate, we can also provide you with your own WordPress user account so you can manage suitable content yourself, such as creating blog posts or making permitted changes to your website.
We’ll continue taking care of the hosting, technical maintenance, backups, monitoring and ongoing SEO improvements included within your package.
